Because I am crazy, whenever they call for snow I have a ritual I do to guarantee a snow day. I tell all of my students to do it too. You know, because it's more likely to work if there are lots of people doing it. {That's what I tell myself.} I wear my pajamas inside out and backwards, flush a cup of ice down the toilet, and put a spoon under my pillow. And it works! Promise. But I'm scared to death that one day my ritual is going to stop delivering results and I might need a new game plan. Do you have a tried and true way to get a snow day?! I need to have a few more tricks up my sleeve so please share!
Here's a little snowy patterns freebie I made to use with my kindergartners this week. I try not to use too much color ink at school for fear that it might run out and we may never get another color cartridge again. So it's black and white. But I'll print it on pretty cardstock. Cut apart the cards and put the pattern name cards in a pile. Students draw a card and use the snowflakes to create that pattern. I'm sure there are many other ways to use it too. Please share if you come up with something different! Grab it here.

Girl! You are sooooo lucky to get snow days! Most districts here in Utah never take snow days, even with 5 feet of snow out your door! They just figure, ya live in the mountains, what did ya expect! Being from the mid-west were we got snow days even if we got a trace of snow, I freak out every now and then when I have to trudge through piles of snow, and unplowed side streets just to get to work. In all my 18 years of teaching, we've never cancelled school, for snow, (or power outages, or water main ruptures with no running water at the school...they hauled in porta-potties!!) I am sooooo jealous of snow days!

Never had a snow day! Even when the school buses were canceled because of the snow and ice. Even when the snow was so thick and heavy the power was out at school for hours. Even when the wind chill was 60 below for a week and cars wouldn't start. School is never canceled here...oh, except at the high school for sporting events!

Thanks so much for sharing your ideas and work! And I love snow days too! I teach in a rural county in Tennessee, and we have ten snow days built in our calendar (what we don't use, we lose, so I'm always happy to get those early morning calls as well!).
I just love your blog!!!! :) And have nominated YOU for the Sunshine Award since you were my first follower and person to comment on my blog. Thank you for inspiring me and sharing your precious and amazing ideas!
